Project description
The job begins with a full walk-through of the house and yard to map every entry point that needs coverage: the front door, back door, garage side door, ground-floor windows, side gates, and any detached structures such as a shed or carport. Camera positions are chosen to eliminate blind spots — corners are angled so that two cameras overlap slightly rather than leaving a gap, and each unit is mounted high enough to avoid easy tampering while keeping faces and license plates readable in the frame.

Once placement is confirmed, cable routes are planned before any drilling starts. Power-over-Ethernet cable is run through attic space, soffits, or conduit along fascia boards so nothing hangs exposed; penetrations through exterior walls are sealed with weatherproof boots to stop moisture and insects getting in. Where running new cable is impractical, a wireless bridge is used instead, positioned to keep a strong line of sight to the base station.

All cable runs terminate at the recorder, which is set up with a dedicated network switch, labeled channels for each camera, and a schedule for continuous versus motion-triggered recording. Night vision range and motion-detection zones are tuned per camera so that a driveway light or passing tree branch does not trigger constant false alerts, while genuine movement near doors and windows is still caught reliably after dark.

The mobile monitoring app is then configured on the homeowner's phone: live view for each camera, push notifications for motion events, and secure remote login are all tested from outside the home network to confirm everything works away from the house, not just on local Wi-Fi. The whole project — survey, cabling, recorder configuration, and app setup — typically wraps up within about a week and a half, with a final walkthrough to confirm every camera angle, cable termination, and notification setting matches what the homeowner asked for.
