If your home espresso or semi-automatic coffee machine has started making strange noises, losing pressure, leaking from underneath, or producing lukewarm and watery shots, the cause is almost always one of three things: a struggling pump, a scaled-up boiler, or a worn valve and gasket set. I come to your home with a full diagnostic kit and a stock of common spare parts so that most problems are found and fixed in a single visit, without you having to box up the machine and ship it anywhere.

The visit starts with a hands-on diagnostic: I check pump pressure under load with a gauge, listen for cavitation or a failing motor, inspect the boiler for scale buildup through the fill and drain points, and test the solenoid and expansion valves for sticking or leaking. I also run a quick water hardness test, because descaling without understanding your local water quality just means the same problem returns in a few months. Many machines that seem to need a new pump actually just need a proper descale — heavy limescale restricts flow and makes the pump work far harder than it should, which shortens its life and mimics pump failure.

Descaling is done with a food-safe descaling solution cycled through the boiler, group head, and internal lines, followed by multiple clean water rinses to remove all residue before the machine touches your next cup. Where the boiler shows heavier buildup, I open it for a manual clean rather than relying on chemical descaling alone, since dissolved scale can flake off and clog narrow lines and valves later. Any gaskets disturbed during this process are replaced as a matter of course, since reusing a compressed gasket almost always leads to a leak within weeks.

If the pump itself is confirmed faulty — worn vanes, a seized rotor, or a failed motor winding — I carry standard replacement pumps compatible with most semi-automatic and prosumer machines, and can usually complete a swap on the spot. Valve repairs cover solenoid valves, three-way valves, and expansion/OPV valves; where a valve seat is worn beyond repair I replace the full assembly rather than patching a part that will fail again soon.

A typical visit runs one and a half to three hours depending on how much internal cleaning and disassembly is required, and I test-pull several shots before I leave to confirm stable pressure, correct temperature, and no leaks. I also leave you with simple maintenance guidance — backflushing frequency and a descaling schedule matched to your water hardness — so the machine stays reliable between visits rather than needing this kind of repair again soon.
