Project description
I am renovating the living room of my stone farmhouse and want to replace the mismatched, mass-produced fireplace accessories with a genuine hand-forged set made by a real blacksmith. I need a full tool set — poker, tongs, shovel, and brush — mounted on a matching stand, plus a pair of andirons to hold the logs. Everything should be forged from solid iron or mild steel, not welded from tubing, with visible hammer texture and hand-finished details rather than a machine-stamped look.
My fireplace opening is roughly 36 inches wide and 28 inches tall, and I am picturing a rustic, slightly medieval aesthetic — twisted shafts, scrolled handles, maybe a simple leaf or acorn motif at the tips, and a dark forged or blued finish rather than paint. I am open to your design suggestions as long as the pieces feel cohesive as a set and are built to withstand real daily use next to an active wood-burning fire, not just decorative pieces.
Please include in your proposal: examples of similar fireplace sets or andirons you have forged before, the type of steel you plan to use, your finishing process (blackening, wax, oil), and a rough timeline. I would also appreciate a sketch or reference photos before you start forging so we can agree on proportions and style. Budget is flexible within reason for genuine hand-forged craftsmanship — I am not looking for the cheapest option, I am looking for quality that will last generations and can eventually be passed down. Shipping insurance and careful packaging for the finished ironwork are required since these pieces will travel some distance to reach me.
