Project description
I have a full-size slate pool table at home that has developed a noticeable lean over the past year — balls drift toward one corner even on a supposedly flat shot, and the frame has settled unevenly on the floor. At the same time the felt cloth covering the playing surface is worn thin near the pockets and along the rail lines, with visible fuzzing, a couple of small snags, and chalk staining that no longer brushes out. I am looking for an experienced technician who can come to my home and handle both problems as a single visit rather than two separate jobs.
The scope I have in mind: disassemble the rails and pockets carefully, lift the slate sections, check and adjust the leg levelers or shim the frame so the bed reads level in every direction with a proper level tool, then remove the old cloth completely, clean the slate seams, and stretch and staple a new cloth of at least tournament-grade weight and color of my choosing. Rail cushions should be inspected while everything is open, and I would appreciate honest feedback if any cushions need replacing rather than just reinstalling worn ones. Pocket liners and staples should be renewed as needed so the finished table looks and plays like new.
The table sits on a hardwood floor on the second level of the house, so I care about the technician being mindful of scratches and using proper floor protection and lifting technique — this is a heavy piece of furniture and I do not want the flooring or the stairwell walls damaged during the move or the work itself. Please bring your own tools, staple gun, leveling equipment, and a vacuum or brush for slate dust; I can provide access, lighting, and a clear workspace around the table.
I would like to discuss cloth material and color options before you buy anything, get a written estimate that separates leveling labor from recloth labor and material cost, and see photos or a short video of similar completed jobs. A guarantee on the level accuracy and the felt installation for at least a few months would be reassuring. Please share your relevant experience with slate tables specifically, since I understand modular or non-slate tables are worked differently. Available most weekday afternoons and weekends for scheduling; the whole job ideally fits within a single working day, but I am flexible if the felt needs time to settle before trimming.
