Project description
I recently bought an electric vehicle and want to stop relying on public charging points, so I am looking for a qualified electrician to install a Level 2 home charging station in my attached garage. The charger unit itself has already been purchased and is sitting in the box, unopened, waiting for a professional to mount and wire it correctly. What I need is the full job: running a new dedicated circuit from my main electrical panel to the garage wall where the unit will be mounted, installing the appropriate breaker sized for the charger's amperage draw, pulling the correct gauge wire through conduit, and terminating everything according to local electrical code.
The distance from the panel to the mounting location is roughly forty feet, and the wire will need to run along a basement ceiling before coming up through the garage wall, so some drilling and conduit fastening will be required. I would like the final installation to look tidy, with conduit run in straight lines and secured properly, not just the fastest path taped along the wall. The mounting height should be comfortable for plugging in a charging cable without bending down too far, and positioned so the cable reaches both of my parking spots in the garage.
I also need the electrician to confirm that my current panel has enough spare capacity for the new circuit, and if not, to advise whether a panel upgrade or a load management device would be the better solution before starting the wiring work. Safety is my top priority here since this involves a high-amperage circuit running continuously for hours at a time while the vehicle charges overnight, so proper grounding, a correctly rated breaker, and code-compliant conduit sizing all matter a great deal to me.
