Project description
I ride a cruiser-style motorcycle and want a genuine leather saddlebag set built specifically for the frame and rear fender area, not a generic off-the-shelf pair. The project is for two matching bags, mounted symmetrically on either side of the rear wheel, connected by a bridging strap that sits over the seat rail so the whole assembly stays balanced when loaded unevenly.

Each bag should hold roughly the volume of a small daypack, with a wide top opening secured by two adjustable buckled straps rather than a zipper, since I want something that will hold up in rain and road grit without a metal track jamming. I would like a stiffened back panel on each bag so they keep their shape against the fender and do not sag or rub through the paint, plus a rubberized or waterproofed lining sewn in to protect anything packed inside during wet weather.

Mounting needs its own attention: I need a secure strap-and-buckle harness system that loops around the frame supports and fender struts, with enough adjustment range to fit slightly different mounting points, and quick-release buckles so the bags can come off easily when I want to travel light or wash the bike. Please also include a couple of external pockets with their own flap closures for small tools, a tire gauge, and a phone, and D-rings on the outer face so I can clip a small bungee net if needed.

Leather should be a heavier vegetable-tanned hide, at least 3-4mm thick for the main panels, edge-burnished and finished so it ages well with sun and road use rather than cracking. Stitching needs to be saddle-stitched by hand or with heavy-duty waxed thread for durability under constant flex. I am open to a natural tan or a darker oiled brown finish, whichever the maker feels will hold up and look best over time, but I would like to see a swatch or sample of the hide and hardware finish before the full build starts. Please share reference photos of similar work, an estimate of build time, and a breakdown of hide, hardware, and labor costs before we proceed. I am also happy to send exact frame and fender measurements and photos of the mounting points once we agree on the overall approach.
