Project description
We are looking for an experienced leather craftsman to make a custom full-size business briefcase for daily use in the office and on trips. This is not a thin case and not an envelope bag — the item needs a rigid framed body, a spacious main compartment with side walls for A4 format folders, a soft partition for a 15-16 inch laptop and at least two additional compartments for a tablet, notebook, pens, business card holder and phone.
On the outside, we would like to see one flat front pocket with a flap or zipper for documents that need quick access, and a slot back pocket for a boarding pass or folded newspaper. We need two strong top handles, stitched or riveted through reinforced leather patches, as well as a removable adjustable shoulder strap with swivel carabiners — so the briefcase can be carried in hand or over the shoulder on the way to work.
Preferred leather is full-grain or top-grain vegetable-tanned beef leather in natural shade, but the craftsman can suggest another option if it holds its shape without deformation and develops a noble patina over time. Hardware — brass or nickel-plated metal, no plastic fasteners or zippers that will fail within a year. Stitching — saddle stitch or strong machine stitch with waxed thread, as the item is designed for intensive daily wear.
Inside, you need a rigid bottom insert or dense stabilizer so the briefcase stands vertically on the floor or table on its own, as well as a key clip and a small zippered pocket for cash or cards. A monogram or modest embossing of initials on the front flap would be a nice addition, but this can be discussed after approving the basic design and pattern.
We ask that you provide a portfolio of previous work on framed bags and briefcases, suggest leather samples, indicate approximate manufacturing timeframes, and let us know if you can prepare a sketch or paper pattern before cutting the main material. We are ready for a fitting of one prototype before sewing the final product and would like to receive along with the finished briefcase clear care instructions for leather for long daily service.
