Project description
We have a walk-in pantry off our kitchen that is currently just four bare walls with a single flimsy wire shelf. We would like to hire an experienced freelancer to design, build and install a full custom shelving and organization system that actually makes use of the space. The pantry is roughly 6x5 feet with a standard door opening, and the ceiling height is about 8 feet, so there is a lot of vertical space that is currently wasted.
What we are hoping for: adjustable wood or melamine shelves along the back and side walls (so we can reconfigure heights as our storage needs change), a bank of two or three pull-out drawers near the bottom for heavier items like canned goods, bags of flour and small appliances, and slim door-mounted racks on the inside of the pantry door for spices, foil, wraps and other narrow items. Please plan for weight — some shelves will hold small appliances and bulk pantry staples, so shelf supports and drawer slides need to be rated for real kitchen use, not decorative-only hardware.
We are open to your recommendations on materials (melamine-coated particleboard, plywood, or solid wood shelving) and finish, as long as it is durable, easy to wipe clean, and reasonably priced. A light, neutral finish that matches white kitchen cabinetry would be ideal, but we are flexible if you have a better suggestion once you see the space.
Scope of work includes: an in-person or video measurement visit, a simple layout sketch or 3D mockup for approval before building, sourcing of shelving materials and drawer hardware, cutting and installing shelf supports/tracks, building and mounting the pull-out drawers, mounting the door racks, and a final cleanup of the work area. We can supply photos and exact measurements up front if that helps with an initial quote, and we are happy to do a walkthrough call.
Please include in your proposal: your experience with kitchen storage or pantry builds specifically (photos of past work are appreciated), an estimated timeline from measurement to completion, and whether you carry your own tools and can source materials or would prefer we purchase them from a list you provide. We would like the work completed within about two weeks of hiring, but are flexible for the right person. Local candidates who can visit in person are preferred, but we will consider remote design consultation paired with a local installer if that works better for your situation.
