Project description
My snowblower has been sitting in the garage since last season, and now that the first cold snap is here, it refuses to start. I've checked the fuel and the spark plug looks worn, but I don't have the tools or the confidence to dig deeper myself. On top of the starting problem, the auger seems to be jamming or not engaging properly when I try to test it, and I'm worried something inside the gearbox or shear pins might be damaged.

I'd rather not haul the whole machine to a shop across town, so I'm looking for a mobile small-engine mechanic who can come to my house, diagnose what's going on, and get everything running reliably before the first real storm arrives. The drive belt also looks cracked and stretched, so I'd like that replaced while you're here rather than waiting for it to snap mid-job. I want this done right, not just patched together, since I'll be relying on this machine all winter.

Please bring your own tools, a basic set of common replacement parts if possible (belt, spark plug, filter), and be ready to explain what you find so I understand the machine better going forward. I can be flexible on timing but would like this resolved within the next couple of weeks before the weather turns.

What I need:
— Diagnose and fix the no-start issue
— Inspect and repair the auger engagement/gearbox
— Replace the worn drive belt
— General tune-up: oil, spark plug, air filter check
— Test run before you leave to confirm everything works
