I restore and resolder stained glass windows in historic houses

For over ten years I have been restoring and resoldering stained glass windows in Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau homes, and I take on exactly such cases — existing architectural windows that have begun to sag, leak or lose glass fragments, rather than manufacturing new decorative panels for hanging. Each old window has its own history of tired lead profile, settled glass and decades of weathering, and before I touch the glass, I carefully read that history.

When you bring me a damaged window, I start with a detailed inspection to understand — is the lead profile itself exhausted or do I need to find and replace broken or missing glass fragments. I hand-cut the replacement glass, matching the color, texture and thickness as precisely as possible, and if necessary I order antique or mouth-blown glass for exact matching, and assemble the panel with traditional lead profile or copper foil — depending on how the original window was made. If the window can be left in place, I work directly at the site with temporary structural reinforcement; if complete resoldering is required, I carefully disassemble the window, record the location of each fragment before disassembly and reassemble it in the workshop following the original pattern.
