Project description
We are looking for an experienced woodworker to craft a one-of-a-kind jewelry box featuring hand-cut inlay (marquetry) decoration. The main carcass should be solid walnut, book-matched on the lid so the grain mirrors across the centreline, with a marquetry medallion on the lid built from contrasting veneers — maple, satinwood, and a thin line of dyed green veneer used as a contour accent. Inside, we need a lift-out top tray divided into a ring roll, four necklace hooks mounted on a velvet-lined riser, and two watch pillows; below the tray, a shallow drawer for bracelets and loose earrings, running on wooden slides or small brass runners.
Hardware should include a pair of brass quadrant stay hinges (soft stop, so the lid never bangs past ninety degrees), a small brass escutcheon with a working lock and two keys, and turned wooden or brass bun feet. Interior lining should be a soft anti-tarnish fabric in a neutral cream or grey tone. Finish: hand-rubbed oil and wax, or French-polished shellac if that is your usual method — please, no glossy polyurethane. Approximate footprint is 30×20×15 cm. Share photos of prior marquetry or inlay work, your proposed veneer combination, and a rough build timeline. We are open to discussing the medallion design — a simple geometric sunburst or a floral motif — once we see samples of your inlay style.
