Project description
We want a backyard putting green built into the side yard, roughly 380 square feet, and are looking for someone who has actually shaped contoured greens before, not just laid flat turf.
The base needs to be excavated to about 4 inches, then built up with a compacted crushed-stone sub-base and a finer decomposed granite shaping layer on top so you can sculpt at least two rolling breaks and a raised back tier — we don't want a flat pancake green. Drainage matters a lot here: our yard slopes toward the house after heavy rain, so a perforated drain line along the low edge tied into the existing downspout run is required, along with proper compaction and a slight crown so water sheets off rather than pooling around the cups.
For the turf itself we're asking for a putting-specific product, roughly 0.5 to 0.625 inch pile height, dense stitch count, with a nylon or blended nylon-polypropylene face so the roll speed stays consistent and doesn't get shaggy after a season. We'd like three cups sunk in different locations — one on the flat section for practice, one on the tier for a breaking putt, and one near the fringe — each with a proper plastic cup housing set flush and a removable flag. A short apron of longer-pile «fringe» turf around the edges and a small chipping pad off to the side would be a nice addition if it fits the budget.
Edging should be a clean metal or composite border so the turf doesn't creep into the mulch beds, and infill (silica sand or a putting-green-specific infill) needs to be brushed in evenly for consistent ball roll — please walk us through the infill choice before ordering.
Timeline: we'd like this done inside 12 days including any curing time for the base, weather permitting. Please share examples of contoured greens you've built (photos of the shaped base before turf helps a lot) and a rough breakdown of base work vs. turf vs. cups/drainage in your quote.
