Project description
We are looking for a skilled hardscaping contractor to design and build a custom stone paver walkway running from our driveway to the backyard patio, roughly 50 linear feet with a gentle curve around an existing maple tree. We would like to use irregular flagstone or tumbled travertine pavers in a random-fit pattern with tight, sand-swept joints rather than a uniform grid layout, so the path feels natural next to the lawn and garden beds.
The work should include full excavation to at least 6-7 inches, a compacted crushed-stone base laid and tamped in 2-inch lifts with a plate compactor, a bedding layer of coarse sand or stone dust screeded dead level, and a firm steel or paver edge restraint along both sides so the path does not spread or shift over time. Please also plan for a slight cross-slope of about a quarter inch per foot so rainwater drains off the surface instead of pooling near the foundation or the patio steps.
We are open to discussing paver color and pattern once we see samples, but we want the finished walkway to tie in visually with the existing brick veneer on the house. Please include removal and disposal of the old cracked concrete path, any regrading needed around the low spot by the fence, and a short walkthrough of maintenance such as joint-sand top-ups and periodic resealing once the project wraps up.
Ideal timeline is 8-10 working days depending on weather, starting within the next three weeks. Please share photos of comparable paver walkway projects, the excavation and compaction equipment you would bring, and a written estimate broken down by material and labor. References from at least two recent local jobs would be appreciated before we confirm a start date.
