Project description
I need a full-grain vegetable-tanned leather belt made to my measurements, built around a custom-engraved buckle as the centrepiece of the whole piece. The strap should be cut from 8–9 oz hide (roughly 3.2–3.6 mm thick), single-layer construction for a substantial but flexible feel — no bonded or corrected-grain leather, please. I’m open to natural tan, dark brown, or black, whichever colour takes the edge dye best.
For the buckle, I’d like a solid brass or stainless-steel plate buckle, engraved with a small three-letter monogram on the face — hand-engraved or laser-etched, your call, as long as the lines stay crisp after years of wear. It should attach with a screw-post or snap-fit system so the strap can be swapped out later without unpicking any stitching.
Sizing: my waist measures 34 inches with trousers on, so please cut the strap long enough for a proper five-hole adjustment range, holes spaced one inch apart, centred and round-punched rather than slit. Belt width 1.5 inches. Edges should be beveled, sanded through several grits, then burnished with wax or gum tragacanth until smooth — no raw or painted edges. Any stitching used to close the buckle end and the keeper loop should be a hand saddle-stitch with waxed linen thread, not a machine zigzag.
I can send a rough sketch of the monogram layout and a couple of reference photos of buckle styles I like. Timeline is flexible — about ten to fourteen days is fine, including time for the engraving. Please quote the strap work and the buckle engraving separately, and let me know which leather and hardware options you’d recommend within the budget.
