Project description
We have a small alpaca farm and need one web application to bring the whole operation into a single system instead of our current mix of spreadsheets and paper notebooks. The core is a herd registry: a record for each animal with registration number, chip, ARI pedigree, links to sire and dam, color and fiber type (huacaya or suri), photos and weight history. From any animal's record, a pedigree tree should open three generations up and down, and next to it — shearing history and fiber metrics.
Fiber is our product, so shearing and fleece yield tracking must be a full module. Spring shearing yields primary fleece, secondary and tertiary fiber by weight for each animal; the application stores micron count, staple length and comfort factor from laboratory histograms and charts fleece changes year over year. A separate breeding module: pair planning, breeding date, pregnancy countdown (about 11.5 months), expected cria birth dates, birth outcome records and weaning.
The public side is a small shop: yarn, roving and finished items by color and micron, plus bookable breeding services from our males. Visitors book tours by date and group size with slot capacity limits. We also need a veterinary module: CDT shots, deworming with body condition scoring, hoof trimming and dental exam — all with reminders. Three roles: owner, farm worker and vet read-only. Convenient from a phone in the barn, CSV export, reliable and fast.
