Project description
I'm planning to set up a CCTV system at home and in a small office, but I have no idea what the total cost of equipment and installation will actually be. Instead of a vague 'from X to Y' estimate from a sales call, I want an online calculator that takes my real parameters into account: how many cameras I need, what resolution to choose, whether footage is stored in the cloud or on a local recorder, and how much the physical installation and cabling will cost on top of the hardware itself.
Right now all I can find are marketing pages from installation companies that hide pricing behind a 'leave a request' form, which means calling several contractors and waiting for callbacks that never quite match what I asked for. I need a tool that shows a real, itemized estimate directly on the page, without registration or phone calls, based purely on numbers I enter myself: number of camera points, camera type (outdoor, indoor, PTZ), resolution (2, 4, 8 MP), how the archive should be stored, and how complex the wiring will be — existing conduits versus new cable runs and wall channeling.
The result should break the estimate into clear line items: equipment cost, cable and connectors, installation and configuration labor, a cloud subscription fee if that storage option is picked, and a final grand total with an option to save or print the calculation. The calculator itself should run as a simple front-end HTML/JS page without a heavy backend, stay fully responsive on phones and tablets, and remain understandable for someone without any technical background in security systems.
Requirements:
— input for the number and type of cameras (outdoor, indoor, PTZ) with separate per-unit pricing for each type;
— resolution selector (2/4/8 MP) that automatically recalculates the per-camera price when changed;
— toggle between cloud storage (monthly subscription) and a local recorder/NVR (one-time purchase);
— installation cost block covering cable run length, wall channeling, mounting hardware and remote access setup;
— final breakdown shown by category plus one grand total in dollars;
— fully responsive layout, front-end only, no server-side code or database required.
