Project description
Our small distribution business is drowning in spreadsheets, and we are looking for a developer to build a clean, reliable web application focused purely on inventory and stock control. We hold goods in three physical warehouses, and right now nobody can tell in real time how many units of a given SKU we actually have, where they sit, or when we are about to run out. We want a single source of truth: a product catalog with SKUs, categories, units of measure and supplier links, and accurate stock quantities per location that update the moment goods move in or out.

The core of the project is day-to-day stock movement. Staff should be able to receive incoming deliveries against purchase orders, transfer stock between warehouses, and record write-offs or adjustments with a reason and an audit trail. Purchase orders need a simple lifecycle from draft to sent to partially or fully received, and the system should suggest reorder quantities based on reorder points we define per SKU. Low-stock and out-of-stock alerts must be visible on a dashboard and, ideally, sent by scheduled notification so our purchasing person acts before shelves are empty. Barcode scanning is important: warehouse staff will use phone cameras or USB scanners to look up items, confirm receipts and count stock during inventory checks, so the interface has to work well on mobile.

We also need meaningful reporting: current stock valuation, movement history per product, slow movers, and stock-take variance reports we can export to CSV or Excel. Please note this is not a full online store and not a heavyweight ERP with accounting and payroll; we deliberately want a focused inventory tool with role-based access for warehouse staff, purchasing and managers. Clean UI, sensible permissions and solid data integrity matter more than fancy extras.

— Multi-warehouse SKU catalog with stock levels per location
— Receiving, transfers, write-offs and adjustments with audit trail
— Purchase orders with reorder points and suggested quantities
— Low-stock and out-of-stock alerts on dashboard and notifications
— Barcode scanning via phone camera or USB scanner, mobile-friendly
— Stock valuation, movement history and variance reports, CSV/Excel export
— Role-based access for staff, purchasing and managers
