Project description
Our company sends out dozens of invoices, service contracts and status reports every week, and right now our staff copy figures into Word by hand, adjust the formatting and export each file to PDF one at a time. The process is slow, and small mistakes in totals, dates or document numbers slip through far too often. We are hiring a developer to build a document automation pipeline that takes our data from a spreadsheet or from our internal API and produces finished, branded PDF documents without any manual editing. The template design, our logo and the colour scheme are already prepared and will be handed over at the start.

The solution must read structured input (rows for invoices, parties and line items), merge it into predefined templates and render clean PDF output. Each document type needs its own template, but all of them must share one consistent visual style: identical headers and footers, fonts, margins and colour accents so the whole set looks like it comes from a single brand. We expect dynamic fields that fill in client names, addresses, dates and amounts, repeating tables for line items with automatic subtotals and taxes, and sequential document numbering that never produces gaps or duplicates. The system should run on demand and also on a schedule, writing generated files to a shared folder and logging what was produced.

Please describe your approach, the libraries or tools you would use, and how you would keep templates easy for non-technical staff to update. We value clean, well-documented code and reliable numbering above all. Deliverables we expect:

— A working generator that produces invoices, contracts and reports as PDF from spreadsheet and API data
— Reusable templates with dynamic fields, repeating tables, automatic totals and consistent branding
— Automatic sequential numbering with a safe, gap-free counter
— Scheduled and on-demand runs with logging and basic error handling
— Short documentation so our team can edit templates and add new document types
