About the service
I weave rattan furniture to order and bring tired old pieces back to life. Every armchair, sofa or coffee table starts with a frame. For a terrace, a veranda or a pool area I weld it from aluminium tube: it carries weight, stays light enough to move alone and never rusts through after a wet autumn. For a living room I prefer wood — the blank is steamed, bent over a form and left to cool in the jig, so the line of an armrest runs as one calm curve with no visible joint. Natural rattan is warm, alive and shows a beautiful knot, but it will not survive a whole season under rain and direct sun: the fibre dries out, goes pale and starts to splinter. That is why outdoor sets are woven from synthetic fibre that you can hose down and that keeps its colour for years.
The weave itself is a decision, not decoration. We choose the pitch and the pattern on a sample before a single metre of material is cut. A tight herringbone with a small pitch gives a seat that does not sink under weight and holds its shape for years; an open lattice makes a backrest light to look at and cool to sit against in July. Cushions are built on breathable foam, shaped to the seat rather than simply laid on top, and dressed in removable covers on hidden zips — they come off and go into the wash after a summer of sunscreen and spilled coffee.
Repair is half of my work. A sagging seat, a broken strand, a corner chewed by frost or by a dog: I strip the old weave, check the frame for hidden corrosion and loose joints, tighten what has worked itself free and re-weave the damaged zone so the new pattern matches the old in pitch and in tone. I will also tell you honestly when a frame is past saving and a new one is cheaper than three more repairs.
