Project description
Looking for a contractor to install a wall safe recessed into the cavity between wall studs (or floor joists, if a horizontal installation is preferred). The safe is mid-sized, roughly 45-60 kg fully loaded, so before any cutting starts I need an accurate assessment of stud spacing, drywall thickness, and any utilities running through the target bay — wiring, plumbing, HVAC ducting. If standard 16″ or 24″ on-center spacing doesn't match the safe's footprint, part of a stud will need to be cut and reinforced: horizontal headers above and below the opening, sister studs added on the sides, and possibly a plywood or OSB backer panel to spread the safe's weight onto the surrounding framing rather than the wall covering alone.
The safe body should be through-bolted into the reinforced frame rather than screwed into drywall — the goal is that anyone who finds the access panel can't simply lift the unit out by hand. The concealed access panel itself needs careful design: I'm considering either a hinged picture frame or mirror on hidden magnetic catches that covers the opening entirely, or a removable trim panel finished to match the surrounding wall (same paint, wallpaper, or texture), with a perimeter gap no wider than 2-3mm so it doesn't stand out. It should open without tools for someone who knows the mechanism — push-to-open latch or a side-mounted hidden release — but show no visible hinges, handles, or keyholes from the front.
After installation, all seams need to be fully finished: taping and mudding the drywall joints, matching wallpaper pattern across the seam or blending paint so the cut line disappears even under raking light. If the safe goes into a wall between a bedroom and hallway, or inside a closet niche, we should agree in advance which side gets access and whether that affects future furniture placement or remodeling.
Timeline expectation is about 1-2 weeks, allowing for ordering reinforcement lumber and sourcing the right hidden latch hardware for the panel.
