Project description
We need someone to set up automatic printing of production routing cards on the shop floor. As soon as a new batch starts on the line, a sheet with the assembly steps and current operation parameters should print automatically on the printer next to the workstation, without a supervisor or operator manually searching for the file and clicking print.
Right now the cards live in a shared folder, versions get mixed up, and workstations sometimes end up with outdated sheets showing parameters that engineers already changed. This needs to be solved at the process level: when the process changes, the system should automatically pull the current card version and print exactly that one on the next batch start, while older versions get archived so they cannot be reprinted by mistake.
We can discuss the data format and the system that stores the process data separately — a ready-made production or inventory program works, as does a combination of spreadsheets plus a print script. The solution must run reliably on an ordinary office printer on the shop floor and require no special skills from the operator.
What needs to be done:
— design a print trigger tied to batch start;
— implement automatic version updates on process change;
— prevent printing of outdated versions;
— test on several batches and product types.
