Project description
We run a website that currently exists in a single language, and we need to turn it into a properly structured multilingual project. The core problem is not translation itself — we can supply the content — but the technical foundation: how the site recognizes, stores, and serves different languages without confusing search engines or visitors.
Right now there is no language switcher, no dedicated URL structure per language, and no hreflang markup, so search engines cannot reliably tell which page belongs to which language or region. We need a developer who can design and implement this properly: a visible language switcher in the interface, clean and consistent URL patterns for each language (subfolders or subdomains, whichever fits our stack), correct hreflang tags across all pages including a default fallback, and a routing structure that makes adding a new language later a configuration change rather than a rebuild.
We would also like guidance on language detection for first-time visitors, avoiding duplicate-content issues between language versions, and how canonical tags should interact with hreflang. Real experience with multilingual indexing matters here, not just front-end switching logic.
