Service description
I offer traditional hand-bound book binding using natural leather — for those who value a book made to last decades, not a standard printing house edition. I take on two types of projects: binding a new text block from printed or manuscript pages and restoring an old book that has lost its cover, is falling apart into separate leaves, or has been damaged by time.

When binding from scratch I fold and collate signatures, hand-sew the text block on cords or tape, glue and form the spine with rounding, then assemble boards from stiff cardboard and cover them with chosen leather — vegetable or chrome tanned, as you prefer. For restoration I carefully disassemble the old binding, clean and re-glue the paper text block, re-sew signatures that have come apart, restore the spine, and fit a new leather cover echoing the original character or executed in a new design.

The work includes spine tooling with the title, endpapers of your choice, headbands, corner decoration, and closure — a strap or flap with a button. I work with literary fiction, family recipe books, photo albums, guest books, journals, dissertations and theses, religious books, and rare editions requiring careful restoration.

Before starting I discuss paper type, text block volume, leather color and texture, degree of decoration, then give an exact cost and timeline. At each stage I send photos — the stitching, spine forming, leather cutting — before final assembly. The result is a sturdy hand-bound cover that opens flat, stands up to daily use, and can be rebound again many years later.
