I then cut the roof opening cleanly, set the fan base under the shingle course above it and over the course below (the standard weatherproofing method used on roof vents and skylights), seal every edge with proper roofing sealant, and secure the solar panel at the optimal tilt angle for year-round sun capture.\n\nBefore I leave, I test the fan's operation in direct sunlight, check the thermostat or humidistat setting if the model includes one, and walk you through basic care — mainly keeping the panel free of leaves and dust so it keeps producing full power. I also inspect and, if needed, add supplemental intake vents so the fan has enough incoming air to work efficiently; a fan without adequate intake will underperform no matter how good the unit is.\n\nI work on asphalt shingle, tile, and metal roofs, and I carry the fasteners and flashing appropriate to each roofing type.
