Manufacturing a built-in storage system for a pantry
Service description
I am a cabinetmaker and woodcarver, and I specialize in transforming awkward and poorly utilized pantries into storage systems that actually work for how you cook and shop. The process starts with a site visit or detailed video review: I measure the opening, account for ceiling height, door swing direction, wall irregularities, pipe and wiring locations, and thoroughly discuss how you currently use the space and what's inconvenient. After that, I create a layout combining fixed shelves for grains and preserves, adjustable shelving for jars and boxes of various sizes, shallow pull-out drawers for canned goods and spices, a separate door-mounted holder, and a deep lower drawer for vegetables or appliances.
I select materials based on the task at hand, not on the principle of "what's cheaper": plywood bodies with solid wood facades, full-extension guides with soft-close mechanisms rated for actual kitchen weight, adjustable shelf supports on standard hole spacing so the system can be adjusted later. I manufacture everything in my workshop with precise woodworking assembly, then assemble and fit it on-site since walls are rarely perfectly level. Finishing ranges from painted MDF for a clean contemporary look to stained solid wood matching existing kitchen facades, and I always bring color and finish samples before finalizing the design.
A standard project includes a written estimate broken down by materials, a scaled drawing for approval before cutting, one round of layout revisions, complete manufacturing and installation, and a final inspection—I check the operation of every drawer and shelf. The timeline from approved project to finished installation is typically one to two weeks for a standard pantry niche, longer for a full walk-in pantry with multiple drawer blocks. My portfolio includes a narrow 60 cm niche transformed into eleven pull-out trays, a walk-in pantry with a solid wall of spice drawers, and a corner pantry where corner shelves made use of dead space that many contractors would simply leave empty. I provide a two-year warranty on woodworking and hardware, and I'm happy to send large photos of the drawer construction before you make a decision.
