About the service
I'm an independent appliance technician for RVs and campers and I come to your location — to a campground, parking area, or directly to your home — to fix the three systems that most quickly ruin a trip: an absorption or 12-volt refrigerator, a roof air conditioner, and a built-in water heater. You don't need to tow the equipment to a workshop and wait in line.
For refrigerators, I diagnose cooling unit malfunctions, ammonia circuit leaks, thermistor and control board failures, door seal wear, and ventilation problems that cause poor cooling in hot weather. I check both the electrical and gas sides on two- and three-mode models and honestly tell you when repairing the cooling unit is not cost-effective, rather than charging for a temporary patch.
For roof air conditioners, I perform capacitor and compressor diagnostics, check refrigerant levels, repair stuck fan motors, calibrate thermostats, and balance air ducts — this is what determines whether the air conditioner will just work or actually cool the cabin on a hot day. I also inspect and seal roof gaskets around the housing — a cracked gasket is one of the main causes of leaks and ceiling damage in older models.
For water heaters, I service both gas and combination gas/electric models: replacement of electric ignition and thermocouples, servicing of anode rods on Atwood and Suburban tanks, repair of bypass and check valves, diagnosis of electronic ignition boards — often the problem is solved without replacing the entire tank, although owners usually think otherwise.
Each visit starts with a written diagnosis, then — an itemized estimate for parts and labor, and everything comes with a 90-day warranty. I keep a supply of parts for the main brands in my vehicle — Dometic, Norcold, Coleman-Mach, Atwood, Suburban — so most work is completed in a single visit. Over three seasons, I've completed over 400 visits, with many regular customers among those living in an RV year-round and seasonal tourists. Write the brand, model, and symptoms of the malfunction — I'll give you a realistic cost estimate before work begins.
