Project description
I run a portfolio website with several hundred photographs, and right now the images are just placed one after another with no proper viewing experience. I need someone to build a real gallery module: a clean grid of thumbnails on the main page, and when a visitor clicks any image it should open in a full-screen lightbox with a smooth transition and simple close controls.
Navigation between photos inside the lightbox has to work both with arrow controls on a desktop and with touch swipe gestures on a phone, since most of my visitors browse from mobile these days and clumsy tapping ruins the impression. Because the portfolio keeps growing, loading speed is a real concern: I need lazy loading so only the thumbnails actually visible on screen are downloaded first, along with properly compressed images, so the page never feels sluggish even with hundreds of photos spread across several albums.
The gallery should support short captions under each photo and, ideally, a simple way for me to add new albums later without touching any code. The result must look modern and behave the same way on an old phone as on a new laptop.
Main requirements:
— responsive thumbnail grid for any screen width
— full-screen lightbox opened by a click or tap
— swipe gestures for switching photos on mobile
— lazy loading and image optimization for speed
— simple album grouping I can manage myself
