Project description
We run a growing Shopify store and we have hit the ceiling of what the platform gives us out of the box. What we actually need is a real custom application: an embedded app that lives inside the Shopify admin, adds the logic our workflow depends on, and behaves like a first-class part of the merchant experience. This is not a theme edit or a Liquid snippet job. We are looking for someone who can architect and build a proper app on the current Shopify API, wire up OAuth installation, request the correct scopes, and keep everything within the review guidelines so the result could eventually go to the public App Store.
The functional core is a specific feature and integration that Shopify does not offer natively. The app must react to store events through webhooks (orders, fulfilment, product and inventory changes), run its own business logic on our side, and write results back through the Admin API. The merchant-facing part should be an embedded admin screen built with Polaris and App Bridge so it feels native, loads inside the admin frame, and passes session-token authentication correctly. We also need recurring billing implemented through the Shopify Billing API, with a clear plan structure, trial handling and graceful downgrades, because this app will be monetised.
Please describe your experience with real Shopify apps you have shipped, how you handle the API version lifecycle and mandatory webhooks, and how you approach data privacy and GDPR webhooks. We value clean, maintainable code, sensible error handling around rate limits, and a staging setup we can test on before anything touches production. Deliverables we expect from you:
— an installable embedded app with OAuth, scopes and session-token auth;
— webhook handlers with verification and idempotent processing;
— a Polaris admin UI plus the custom feature logic we specify;
— recurring billing via the Shopify Billing API with plans and trials;
— deployment notes, environment config and basic documentation.
