About the service
I will bind your book in leather binding by hand — using traditional techniques and natural leather. I take on family Bibles, diplomas, diaries, photo albums, gift editions and old books requiring restoration. Before starting, I always discuss with the customer the format, block thickness, purpose of the book and desired appearance — from rough vegetable-tanned leather to smooth calf with any shade of embossing.
I work entirely by hand, without industrial equipment: if necessary, I disassemble the old binding, strengthen or restore pages, sew signatures with strong thread, form a new spine and cover pre-prepared cardboard covers with leather. If desired, I add decorative elements — blind or gold embossing, bands on the spine, marble paper or leather endpapers, ribbon bookmarks, hand-made headbands. At each stage I send photos so the customer can see the process and make changes before final assembly.
The result is a durable archival-quality binding: the book opens flat, pages are protected for decades to come, and the appearance is worthy of a home library or gift. I undertake both the creation of new bindings and the restoration of antique and commemorative editions, each time selecting materials for the specific book. The cost includes: consultation on materials and design, hand sewing of the block, manufacture of leather binding, embossing or engraving if desired, protective treatment of leather and step-by-step photos of the process.
