Project description
I have no fixed idea about the moulding yet and would rather hear a proposal. My feeling is a wide profile, somewhere around 70 to 90 mm, with a plain face and a shallow slip, so the frame carries the size of the work without competing with the brushwork; the room is a living room with light plaster walls and oak floors, so warm neutral tones read better to me than gilt. Please show me two or three finish samples as real corner sections before anything is cut.
There is a second piece in the same order: a charcoal drawing 50 by 70 cm that has to go under glass with a mat. Here I care about the mat width and the proportions. I have been told the bottom margin should be cut wider than the other three so the sheet does not look like it is sinking in the frame, and I would like you to explain that and show it on a mock-up. For the glazing I want museum anti-reflective glass rather than plain float, because that wall takes side light from a window for half the day and ordinary glass turns into a mirror.
— deep rebate and spacers for the stretched canvas, backing board and dust seal on both pieces;
— acid-free mat, the sheet hinged, nothing glued down across the back;
— weight calculation for the finished frame and hardware suited to plaster over brick;
— two hanging points so the frames sit level and stay level;
— delivery and hanging at my place, with the wall marked and drilled by you.
On timing I count on a week and a half to two weeks from the moment the samples are agreed. In your reply please say which profile you would propose for this subject and this room, what it is made of, and quote the glass for the drawing as a separate line.
