About the service
Every pickup I wind starts with a conversation, not a catalogue. You tell me what you hear in your head: a glassy clean that stays sweet on the bridge, a bass that growls without turning to mud, a neck position that sings under light gain. I ask what amp you play through, what strings you use and what bothers you about the current pickups. From that I choose the magnet type and strength, the wire gauge and insulation, the number of turns and the target DC resistance. I write the recipe down before I start, so you know exactly what you are getting and why.
The coils are wound on my own machine with controlled tension, then vacuum-potted in wax so the pickup stays quiet and does not squeal at stage volume. If you want, I install it too: I solder the harness neatly, shield the body cavities with foil or conductive paint and tie everything to a proper ground. Then I set pickup height against the strings, because a millimetre changes more than most people expect. I measure resistance and inductance before and after, and I play the instrument myself before handing it back. I also rewind broken coils of old pickups, keeping the original bobbin and magnets wherever possible.
A few honest rules. Soldering is done in a ventilated space, and solder with flux is not something to leave within a child's reach. A pickup works together with an amplifier, but connecting or repairing a mains-powered amp is separate electrical work with its own safety rules, and it is not part of this service. I do not make copies of branded models under other people's names; every set is my own design built to your brief.
— conversation about the target sound, amp and playing style;
— choice of magnets, wire gauge, number of turns and resistance;
— vacuum wax potting against microphonic feedback;
— installation, clean soldering and shielding of body cavities;
— pickup height set to your strings, measurements before and after;
— rewinding a broken coil of a vintage or old pickup;
— typical turnaround 7 to 14 days depending on the set.
