About the service
I throw on the potter's wheel large decorative serving dishes and sets of charger plates — specially designed for festive tables and entertaining guests, not for everyday dining. If you envision an impressive dish for a roasted turkey for a holiday, a set of chargers for an elegant table setting, or a cheese and appetizer board that itself looks like a work of art — this is exactly the kind of commission I take on.
Each piece begins with a lump of stoneware or porcelain centered on the wheel, then opened and stretched into a wide shallow form capable of holding real weight — a whole bird, a cheese plate, a pile of appetizers — without warping or cracking. The edges are hand-finished and trimmed, so no two dishes in a set will be identical to each other: that's the special value — living variability that only hand-throwing on the wheel can provide, not something from a mold.
Glazing is what brings the image together. I select and test glaze combinations to match your table's palette: deep matte earthy tones, glossy saturated colors, or calm speckled neutral shades that will work with almost any textile. After firing, each dish and charger is food-safe, dishwasher and microwave safe, and built to last for years of use, not just a single photo shoot.
A standard commission includes a consultation on size, quantity, glaze, and finishing details; photos of the piece during production before the final firing for your approval; and reliable packaging for delivery or pickup. Usually I create a set of four to eight pieces, but I'm happy to calculate quotes for larger sets for bigger events.
It's important to understand the scope of the commission: these are large decorative serving dishes and charger plates for holidays and entertaining, not a complete everyday dinnerware set — plates, bowls, and cups for daily meals. If you need everyday dinnerware, that's a separate commission — write to me and I'll point you in the right direction. And if it's about a statement piece for your next festive table, wedding, or anniversary — let's discuss sizes, colors, and timelines.
