About the service
If you want to see who is at the door before opening it, and at the same time have the ability to let a guest in while you're away from home — I install and configure video intercoms paired with smart locks or electronic access controllers on entrance and backup doors. This is not a typical security camera installation: I work specifically with the entry point so that the intercom, lock, strike plate, and phone application work as a single system, rather than three separate devices.
The work begins with an inspection of your doors: material and thickness of the door leaf, presence of wiring for the old doorbell, Wi-Fi signal strength at the door, your preferences for battery-powered or wired operation. For the lock, I assess the door and frame to offer either a cylinder replacement for a smart actuator, a full smart lock, or a reader with keypad or key fobs — based on your budget and the real level of security you need.
Installation includes mounting the intercom camera at the correct height and angle to capture faces and packages without glare, neat routing or concealment of wiring, installation of a smart lock or strike plate with precise tolerances so the door still closes tightly, and where possible, integration of both devices into a single mobile application so you don't have to keep three different logins. I configure push notifications, two-way communication, motion zones to filter out false alarms from cars and trees, as well as temporary or one-time access codes for guests, cleaning, or couriers.
I pay special attention to security: I change all factory passwords, enable two-factor authentication where supported by the platform, update the firmware to the latest stable version, and disable unnecessary functions, including open cloud ports. I separately show you how to revoke access codes, check battery level remotely, and what to do if the internet goes down — a smart lock should always have a backup physical key or local PIN code.
After installation and connection, I perform a complete check: delivery of call and video notifications, live view and two-way communication, remote lock and unlock from any network, auto-lock timers, and integration with any existing smart hubs you have. In conclusion, I leave you with a brief written setup guide, administrator credentials, and explain how to independently add and remove users. I work with major consumer platforms and can advise in advance which equipment will actually fit your door so you don't buy technology that would never fit in your opening.
