About the service
I am an embroiderer and take custom orders for wedding handkerchiefs — that very "something old" talisman that the bride takes with her to the altar. If you have preserved a scrap from your grandmother's bridal dress, a piece of your father's shirt, or fabric from a christening gown that you hate to throw away, send it to me, and I will transform this scrap into a neat handkerchief with lace-trimmed edges, your initials and wedding date hand-embroidered.
Each order begins with a conversation about the fabric and its history: it is precisely this history that I embroider. The monogram and date I execute entirely by hand, selecting thread thickness and stitch type according to the age and density of the fabric — delicate silk requires a completely different approach than dense linen. Before I take up the needle, I will send you a digital sketch of the placement of the text and font, and will make corrections until you like the result.
I have been embroidering textiles to order for several years, and wedding handkerchiefs are my favorite work: they are hidden in a bouquet, they are wept into from happiness on the wedding day, and then they are kept for decades and passed down through the family. If you want a memorable item that will connect your wedding to those who came before you, I will be happy to help create it.
What is included in the order:
— consultation on fabric and design idea
— hand embroidery of initials and wedding date
— edge finishing with lace or narrow hem stitch
— digital sketch of the layout before embroidery begins
— packaging ready for gifting
