About the service
If your basement has a room that would work perfectly as a bedroom, but formally cannot be considered one due to the lack of an emergency exit — I solve exactly this problem. I am a contractor specializing in the installation of egress windows in foundations, and I manage the entire process from the first cut of concrete to signing off with the inspector, so you don't have to hire and coordinate different tradespeople yourself.
I select and install each window according to building code requirements: minimum opening area, windowsill height from the floor, a window well with a permanent ladder if its depth requires one. Cutting through concrete or block foundation walls is performed with temporary reinforcement of the opening — no cut corners that would weaken the wall or lintel. I build the window well with a slope and waterproofing so that six months later you won't face basement flooding.
I also take on the paperwork: filing for work permits, scheduling the inspection, and explaining in advance exactly what the inspector will check, so there are no surprises on inspection day. After a successful inspection, you have a document confirming that the room officially meets bedroom standards — this matters when selling the house, for insurance, and for renting it out.
The work includes:
— Site inspection and foundation assessment
— Permit filing and verification of requirements for your jurisdiction
— Foundation cutting with temporary reinforcement
— Installation of egress window and window well to code
— Drainage and waterproofing of the window well
— Coordination of final inspection and compliance documentation
