Project description
Our entryway is the first thing everyone sees when they walk in, and right now it is a pile of shoes, backpacks and jackets on the floor. I want to commission a built-in mudroom bench that finally organizes all of it in one fitted unit rather than a store-bought rack that never quite matches the wall.

The entry nook is roughly 7 feet wide by 22 inches deep, with a radiator on one end that the design has to clear. I would like four individual open cubbies sized for each family member — two adult-width sections and two narrower ones for the kids — each just tall enough for a stacked pair of boots without cramming. Above the cubbies, a row of evenly spaced coat hooks (roughly 6 inches apart, staggered at two heights so jackets do not overlap) mounted on a cleat rather than straight into drywall.

The bench seat itself should sit at standard seat height, be solid enough to stand on to reach a top shelf, and I am open to a lift-top section over one or two of the cubbies for seasonal storage — gloves, hats, umbrellas — as long as the hinge mechanism is rated for repeated daily use and includes a soft-close or support stay so it cannot slam on fingers.

Because this sits at the main entrance, the finish needs to handle wet boots, salt, sand and daily bumps without showing wear in six months — a durable painted or sealed finish with a scuff-resistant topcoat, not a delicate stain that will mark up immediately. Base trim should match our existing baseboards so the unit reads as original to the house.

Before any cutting starts I want an accurate on-site measurement, a simple layout drawing showing cubby widths and hook spacing, and confirmation of the wood species and finish before we commit. I am hoping for delivery and installation within two to three weeks, and would like photos of similar completed benches with cubbies and lift-top seating from your past work.
