An article about the opportunities for education of women on maternity leave
Today a woman is successful when she can combine advancement up the career ladder with family well-being.
But in practice this is not so simple, especially when a small child appears. Motherhood is the dream of many and the main purpose of every woman. However, few expecting mothers are in reality ready to "drop out of life" for 1.5 and even 3 years.
Of course, there are many options of expensive trainings and interest clubs, but income during maternity leave does not always allow such methods to be used. So how do you keep pace with the times without spending money on additional knowledge?
A government initiative...
In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a program to assist the employment of the population has been developed, which includes educational activities for women on maternity leave caring for a child up to 3 years old. On the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod Employment Center (EC), training courses are provided both for the purpose of obtaining a new profession and for improving women's existing qualifications. The main condition here is returning to work no later than 3 months after the end of the course and providing the corresponding document to the EC.
Lyudmila Churakova, deputy head of the professional training department of the EC, says that the program for educating women on parental leave has, since 2012, been included in the law on employment of the population of Nizhny Novgorod and is fully financed from the federal budget:
- Participants can choose a variety of training courses. For example, such as computer modeling, logistics, confectionery, hairdressing, photography, business English. The main thing here is the desire to work afterwards in the chosen direction.
Currently, the courses most in demand among women on maternity leave are refresher courses in the specialties "accounting", "HR manager", "sales manager", "estimating", "interior design", "nursing".
It is important to consider that only women who have children up to three years old, are in an employment relationship with an employer and plan to return to work at their former workplace or start it at a new place upon completion of maternity leave can be referred for training.
The program is gradually gaining popularity among young mothers. The opportunity for free education with the help of the EC has, according to Churakova, already been used by about 150 residents of Nizhny Novgorod.
...And a private one
The duration of the training course depends on the specialization and lasts from 1.5 to 6 months. The training is conducted by teachers of licensed universities and professional education centers of Nizhny Novgorod and other cities of the region - Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, Bor, Semenov.
After completing the training and passing the exams, women receive an official document of the established form on the assignment of a qualification. Such a document and knowledge make it possible not only to adapt to work after a long break, but also to improve qualifications or change the field of activity, or reach a new level in the profession.
Elena Vesnina, a 36-year-old accounting specialist, worked in this field for many years, so she was thinking about a promotion.
- But after the birth of the second child, professional ambitions had to be set aside, - says Elena. - When I was on maternity leave, acquaintances suggested turning to the EC to take a refresher course. I was offered training in the specialization "Preparation and certification of chief (professional) accountants" on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics. I not only refreshed my knowledge but also mastered the skills of developing a balanced system of economic indicators. Already a year after returning to work, I received the position I wanted.
Marina Gruzdeva, a nurse, worked in trade for several years. While staying at home with her child, she decided to return to medicine, but the term of her certificate had already expired.
- With the help of the EC, I was able to confirm my certificate free of charge at the Center for Advanced Training of Healthcare Specialists and get a job at the kindergarten my son attends, - she says.
And 26-year-old Yulia Fominykh, an economist by education, was passionate about flowers all her life. But before the birth of her child, she worked in fields far from her hobby: as an administrator, a consultant, and could not "find herself" in any way.
- After the birth of my baby, I decided that I needed to transform my passion for flowers into a profession, - Yulia recounts. - I was very glad that I was able to learn to be a florist completely free of charge, now I work in an event-organizing agency. I get enormous pleasure from decorating spaces with flowers, and I am paid well for it!
Experience shows that with the appearance of a child, a peculiar period sets in in a mother's life, giving a chance to look at one's life from the outside and set the right priorities. However monotonous the daily routine may seem at first, maternity leave is not only raising a baby but also a time of new opportunities for gaining knowledge and mastering professions for future changes.
