So, let's start from the very beginning.
Design - (from English "Design" — to design, to draft, to conceive, as well as a project, plan, drawing) — the activity of designing the aesthetic properties of industrial products ("artistic engineering"), as well as the result of this activity. That is the definition given to us by the well-known Wikipedia. To put it briefly, design is all activity related to aesthetics, i.e. to beauty. This includes interior design, the design of banners, logos, print materials, and all the products that exist in our world.
Now let's talk about design in the modern world...
Due to the development of high-speed communications, i.e. the Internet, there has been an enormous leap in the development of the fields of design. Naturally, the number of service offerings has also increased; in general, new opportunities for growth have emerged both for people connected with it and looking for work, and for people far removed from it who need professionals in their field.
The Internet has opened up the greatest opportunities. Many fields within design appeared only thanks to it. These are banner design, website design - everything that is in some way connected with web development. Of course, the other types have not sunk into oblivion, but nonetheless they have lost their importance in the eyes of employers, which is why everyone strives to create their own brand on the Internet and, consequently, to promote it. And... Yes, they are right; creating a style by which a company can be found across the expanses of the Russian Internet (a logo, banner, business cards) really does help a great deal in growing a business and expanding it.
There are many advantages to having a company style with a wonderful design and concept. I will not list many of them, but I will describe the main ones.
1) Memorability. One of the main advantages and the most important quality that should be embodied in your corporate identity. It helps the client remember your company better, and it does not necessarily have to be complex. Practice shows that all the largest global brands and transnational corporations have very simple logos. For example, Nike, Reebok, Gazprom, Ebay, Columbia. That is far from the whole list. There is no need to overcomplicate things when creating a logo, business card, and similar products. After all, as A.P. Chekhov once said - "Brevity is the sister of talent".
2) Quality. Your trademark should remind people that you have a quality product (or service). As a result, the main factor is not the logo but the level of quality of your products, whether they are competitive. Everyone should ask themselves this question. Therefore, dear customers, before complaining to freelancers and demanding a refund because the website, logo, or business card does not bring profit, i.e. clients, first think it over carefully and analyze your company; perhaps some drunken watchman, Uncle Vasya, is simply scaring off visitors) I am not saying you should stop complaining, it's just that you must provide rock-solid proof that your product is of high quality, and that it was the designer who messed up, not you.
These are the two most important rules when creating the design of everything that is on the Internet. The most interesting thing is that customers often do not think about the quality of service in their companies, and as a result, disagreements arise between the designer and the employer.
What else can be discussed to reach 4000 characters)
I would like to talk specifically about logo design. This is a very interesting topic on which all novice designers and uninformed customers slip up.
Please remember a few rules that I have worked out for myself.
1. Simplicity of perceiving the logo.
2. Conformity with the customer's tastes.
3. Absence of a background - mandatory.
4. Do not rush to send the logo and take the money; first ask the employer three times whether they are satisfied with it.
5. Write out the terminology. It really helps to make it look like you understand this stuff (if you are a 15-year-old schoolkid sitting in front of a computer running XP)
6. Upon completing the work, provide the client with a so-called estimate. Describe in detail what you are charging money for. This instills in the customer the idea that the sum was not calculated arbitrarily. (Ah, I'll charge 5 grand, 2500 for the creation, and the rest is a markup, the client is rich after all) !!! Never do that!!!! Otherwise the client will never come back to you again.
Well then, that is probably all I can tell you about design in the modern world. In reality this is only a small part of the iceberg, 90% of which is hidden underwater.
I hope you have absorbed this information and will take it into account under any circumstances.
