Keyboard training program for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
What the program is for. The child already knows how to read and knows the alphabet, has printing skills, but does not implement them without the guidance of the mentor, confidently uses the mouse, spending a lot of time at the computer. The goal: to teach the child to use the keyboard independently, automating the learning process.
After downloading the PC, the program starts automatically and runs in the background, a shortcut appears in the system tray. If you click on it with the right mouse button, a context menu appears - settings.
With an interval, the beginning will be the moment of the program launch, the screen smoothly becomes white, translucent - screensaver. On the screen displays familiar to the child word or sentence, this sample, the letter for input is allocated in size, after it was entered becomes normal size, then the second letter and so on, as if prompting which letter to press on the keyboard. If the wrong character is entered, the sample letter begins to blink intermittently for 1 second, making the hint more explicit.
Under the word is located the frame - the place of entering the symbols that make up the word or sentences of the sample. In this frame, the cursor flashes, the child looking at the sample, from the keyboard should type a word or sentence on the keyboard. If you try to enter the wrong symbol, it does not appear in the frame. The next character does not move until the correct one is entered. After entering from the keyboard all the characters that make up a word or sentence, the phrase of encouragement is displayed (for example, the word is good!!!!). ) and the screen smoothly returns to its original state, allowing the child to return to a comfortable state, to what he was doing.
What can be changed in the settings:
The degree of transparency and background color of the screensaver.
Time interval of the screensaver appearance in minutes. If it is 0, the screensaver is not lost.
Font and color of letters. Orientation to the center of the screen.
The size of the frame. And also the distance from the sample to the frame.
The output words and sentences the program takes from text files.
Files can be edited, added or removed.
Turn on and off the hint mode (increased letter size)
